# Run and Cost

Editor: top bar › Check Simulation

Before a run, Check Simulation checks the setup and estimates the cost. Then Run Simulation starts the run on the cloud. A version that has run cannot change; to change it, you create a new version.

# Check and Run

Check Simulation button, with "Validation and Estimate Cost" next to it

Check Simulation

  1. Click Check Simulation. The editor saves the project, then checks it ("Validating and Estimating...").
  2. Read the result next to the button:
    • Validation Passed, with the estimated cost: the simulation is ready.
    • Warning (N): the simulation can run. Click the text to read the warnings.
    • Not ready to run (why?): fix the errors first. Click the text to read them.
  3. Click Run Simulation. The run starts at once. There is no confirmation step.

Run Simulation

Cloud only

Click Estimated Cost to open the cost details: your available FlexCredits, and the simulation's Grid Points, Time Steps, Simulation Data Size and Storage on Cloud. If the estimate is higher than your available FlexCredits, the dialog lists ways to reduce the cost: a coarser grid, a shorter run time, symmetry, and non-dispersive materials.

# During the Run

  • The progress window opens. It shows the steps of the run, and a Real-time log. An FDTD run has Submitted, Queued, Preprocess, Running Solver and Postprocess; a Mode run has Queued and Running Solver. If the fields fade early, Running Solver shows Early Shutoff.
  • The button shows Queued Simulation and then Running Simulation. Click it to open the progress window again.
  • To stop the run, click Abort in the progress window and confirm. A simulation that has finished its processing cannot be stopped.

Cloud only

If the same simulation already ran, the editor uses the saved results and does not charge FlexCredits again. The progress window says so and offers Rerun.

# After the Run

  • When the run succeeds, a Congratulations! dialog offers Download Data and Go To Simulation Results. You can also open the Results tab.
  • The button becomes Edit. Click it to create a new version that you can change. See Project History.
  • The billed cost is in Simulation Assets. See Simulation Assets.

Cloud only

With a vGPU license, the button reads Run Simulation With vGPU or Run Simulation With FlexCredits. Use the arrow next to it to choose how to pay. See Run with vGPU.

# Common Mistakes

  • Clicking Run Simulation to test the setup: the run starts at once and costs FlexCredits. Use Check Simulation to test.
  • Changing the setup after a run: the version that ran cannot change. Click Edit to create a new version.
