# Ports

EME computes the scattering matrix between two ports, Port 1 and Port 2, placed at the two ends of the simulation domain along the propagation axis. The port planes can be displayed in the viewer using the eye toggle next to the Ports item in the model tree.

# Propagation Axis

axis: Axis along which the EME cells are laid out and the propagation is performed.

Options:

  • X
  • Y
  • Z

Default: X

# Port Offsets

port_offsets: Offsets for Port 1 and Port 2, relative to the simulation bounds along the propagation axis. Use nonzero offsets to move the ports away from the simulation boundaries, for example, to exclude padding regions from the scattering matrix.

Type: floating-point number

  • Unit: m, μm (default), or nm
  • Constraint: greater than or equal to 0; the sum of the two offsets must be smaller than the simulation size along the propagation axis
  • Default: (0, 0)

NOTE

the modes computed at the two ports are stored by default and appear as Port Modes in the EME Results. See Store Port Modes.
